The specialist international beekeeping organisation

Making a difference worldwide

Ethiopia

Bees for Development Ethiopia was established as a locally-registered charity in 2012.  Bees for Development Ethiopia is headed by our long term colleague and partner Mr Tilahun Gebey. In 2015 we started a three-year Project to help 1,200 of the most vulnerable families in Bahir Dar Zuria and Dera, to get started with beekeeping to increase their family income. The Project has four outputs:

  • Training new beekeepers and building a network of community-based mentor, existing beekeepers able to help others
  • Training government extension workers to provide follow-on support
  • Strengthening links between rural beekeepers and established honey markets
  • Supporting micro-enterprises to make and supply inputs to the local beekeeping sector.

This important work in Ethiopia was made possible with initial support from Trade Advance Ltd, whom we are delighted to acknowledge.  Bees for Development Ethiopia could not have begun work without this crucial support at start-up.
